I can't question this. It would destroy my family."
That sentence is the fence doing its best work. Because it makes the cost of questioning so catastrophic, so immediate and personal and devastating, that the question never makes it out of your head.
And the system stays intact.
And you stay inside it.
Carrying the weight forward.
Here is what I know from the other side: the families that survive a man waking up are the ones led by a man who finally stops performing and starts being real.
A man rotting away inside is not a strong leader.
He is a liability in slow motion.
The most honest thing a father, a husband, a leader can do is stop pretending and start finding out what’s actually true.
For himself first.
That isn’t selfishness.
That’s the prerequisite for everything else.
